‘as fine a built town all of stone as may be seen’
Celia Fiennes

The Society works to protect and foster a sympathetic response to the built and social fabric of the town. It enlivens this debate through a regular newsletter, lectures, exhibitions, visits and booklets that deal with major issues. The monthly committee meeting considers and responds to current planning applications, especially on listed buildings and seeks to enlighten and influence individuals and decision making bodies.

The Society concentrates much of its effort in the town centre, but we also take a keen interest in the Northfields area. This area of town has many fine Victorian buildings as a contrast to the largely Georgian Centre. The local Northfields web site can be found here.

At a time of rapid change, the Civic Society defends Stamford's heritage and articulates a clear vision of its development in the future.

You can support our work and participate in our social events and other activities by joining the Society.
