In 2007, as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Stamford being designated a Conservation Area, the Society produced a booklet celebrating the town and including a history of the Civic Society up to that date. You can read it and download it here.
One of the Society’s main roles is to monitor the planning applications that affect Stamford, especially in the Conservation Areas. The Society regularly appears at District Council planning meetings when applications of particular importance are being discussed, and also makes representations to the Planning Inspectorate when decisions are appealed.
In addition, the Society arranges talks and visits to places of interest for its members, carries out a number of projects, regularly makes awards for work of special value in the town and works actively with local schools to encourage the next generation to understand what a special place Stamford is.
A newsletter is distributed to all members approximately twice a year.
The Society’s objectives are set out formally in its constitution.
