‘as fine a built town all of stone as may be seen’
Celia Fiennes

The Society’s project for 2009 has been a review of the state of the pavements in the Conservation Area.

The Society has arranged for the production and siting of a number of information boards to explain key features of Stamford to visitors and townspeople. The cost of the boards is met from the Society’s funds.

Three information boards have been completed to date. These are the boards at St. Peter’s Gate , St. Leonard’s Priory and near the Meadows to describe the site at Stamford Castle. The next board may well be in the Northfields area, to promote the designation of this area as a conservation area.

The Society has started a partnership with the Malcolm Sargent Primary School, to encourage young people in Stamford to take a greater interest in the town and its future. See our Schools Project page for more information.

To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Stamford becoming the first urban conservation area, the Society has produced a booklet that you can download here.
