Views from the past competition

We are pleased to announce that the winner of our competition – held as part of the Society’s celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Stamford’s Conservation Area – is Mrs Sue Spooner.

People entering the competition had to identify where photographers stood to take 14 pictures that form part of Historic England’s archive images of Stamford.

Sue will receive a copy of The Magic Lantern Slides of Henry Traylen that contains images of Stamford from the late 19th and early 20th century collected by local architect, Henry Traylen.

Sue, who lives in Stamford, said ‘The challenge of the competition tasks confirmed for me that the character and personality of Stamford had hardly changed over the years. This must be attributed to the strong guardianship of some of its dynamic, caring residents.’

You can search online for more pictures of Stamford from Historic England’s archive of over a million records at historicengland.org.uk/images-books/photos/
