Coronation of King Charles III

To celebrate our King’s Coronation, the Stamford Civic Society helped to display Stamford in a way that was truly fit for a king over the Coronation weekend of May 5th-8th. To support the Stamford Town Council’s celebrations, we held two competitions in the Town Centre over the weekend; one for shop window displays and a 'spot the difference; competition for primary/junior school children and their parents.

We hope that this encouraged family orientated footfall and a community buzz in the Town over the weekend and, along with our Shop Window Display competition, it made our Town Centre vibrant and popular over the festive weekend.

The competitions are now closed

Shop Window display judging took place on Thursday 5th May.

Results for all competitions will be announced on Saturday 13th May at 11am in St Michael’s churchyard, High St

Shop Window Displays

A panel of local judges scored 50 window displays using three criteria:
  1. Innovation How different is this display from the shops’ usual displays?
  2. Eye-catching Does it immediately make you stop and look?
  3. Creativity Does it reflect the Coronation theme?
Shops were judged in two categories; Commercial and Charity over the weekend.

Spot the Difference Competition

88 Shops placed an object in their usual window display that would not normally be there.  For example: a toy car in a butchers’ window, a packet of sweets in a dress shop window, a carrot in a gift shop window.

All primary school children in Stamford and nearby villages were invited to take part at the start of the summer term post-Easter..
